What I found in Buyeo
The second work connects the population decline facing both Nantou and Buyeo with interviews about local entrepreneurs’ challenges and hopes. These include finding a distinctive idea, settling somewhere without established ties, limited visitor numbers, and the rewards of making desserts with local produce or running a bookshop.
Seeing how people in Buyeo love their town prompted a fresh look at the appeal of the filmmaker’s own city. Buyeo felt small, charming and worth experiencing as a place to live, with a hope to return when the opportunity arises.
