Recording Buyeo through a camera also became a way to reconsider what gives a place value. The first film, ‘The Many Faces of Buyeo’, brings together interviews with local entrepreneurs and residents. Open skies, quietness, hope, past and present coexisting, encouragement to try and the image of an unpolished stone form a chorus of different perspectives.

What I found in Buyeo

The second film presents a personal view of Buyeo. Playing on the similar Mandarin sounds of 扶餘, the town’s name, and 富裕, meaning abundance, it finds true richness in people’s eyes, the warmth of a carefully lived life, small gardens and sincerity. As departure approaches, gratitude is joined by reluctance to leave.
